Memorial for Interpreter Dorita Kirchick

A celebration of Dorita's life scheduled this weekend at her home

Interpreters plan to gather at 9:30, Sunday, Aug. 16  at 24021 Welby Way in West Hills.

Dorita passed away recently after battling cancer.

A native of Cuba, worked for the court as a Spanish interpreter for 47 years up until her retirement in March 2014 from the Van Nuys Courthouse. At the time of her retirement, she was the most senior interpreter in the county.

"She was our firecracker, she liked to be identified as such, and she announced it with her car's license plate," said her colleague Magda Schafler.

She had many passions, including tennis, walking many miles daily, Zumba, and above all she loved parties and sharing with friends.

"The past few months have been hard and painful, but Dorita was always upbeat and positive. We loved her to the end and to the end she loved us," Schafler said.

Dorita leaves behind her two sons, seven grandchildren and many very close friends and her family of interpreters. She will be greatly missed by all.
