Membership Categories

Bargaining Unit - California court interpreter employee
To enjoy full membership privileges and vote as a union member, you must sign up to be a member. Just the fact that you become an employee and pay dues does not automatically make you a member. Member dues are collected through payroll deductions, and payment of dues or fair share fees is a condition of employment under our contracts. If dues or fair share fees are not being deducted from your paycheck contact us with any questions.

Freelance - Independent contractor
Must have an industry credential such as California Court Certified/Registered, Federal Court, Medical, ATA, Consortium.  Annual dues are $150, currently discounted to $50 until further notice. Membership expires 12 months from date dues are paid.

Associate - Supporter
Interpreter without credential, student, supporter, or organization. Cannot vote in CFI elections. Annual dues are $50, currently discounted to $25 until further notice. Membership expires 12 months from date dues are paid.

Additional benefits are available to members through our parent union, Communications Workers of America (CWA). These include discounts, scholarships, training and more.

CFI member dues are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Additional contributions may be deductible as a business expense. Consult with your tax advisor for more detailed information.
